The USA Boxing Foundation provides funding for a variety of aspects in USA Boxing from High Performance to academic scholarships like the Thomas "Sarge" Scholarship to travel stipends, to support for women’s boxing programs. Since our inception in 1986, the USA Boxing Foundation has provided more than $2.1 million in support the future of our sport.

About the Thomas "Sarge" Johnson Scholarship

The USA Boxing Foundation, in partnership with USA Boxing, awards academic scholarships each calendar year to eligible USA Boxing members for the purpose of pursuing post-secondary education. This includes technical or vocational schools and community college programs, and isn’t confined to strictly four-year colleges and universities.

 

What are the eligibility requirements for the Thomas “Sarge” Johnson scholarship?

In order to be eligible for a scholarship you must:
• Be a U.S. citizen
• Have already completed at least one semester of a post-secondary program
• Have a post-secondary cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
• Be a current USA Boxing member, and have been a member during the last two calendar years
• Have competed in at least two sanctioned bouts this year, and each of the last two calendar years.

If you can answer yes to all of these requirements, you are eligible to apply for a scholarship.

How many scholarships are given each year?

11 scholarships are given to eligible applicants with the following breakdown:
• 2 awards of $2,000 for trade school applicants
• 7 awards of $3,000 for undergraduate program applicants
• 2 awards of $2,500 for graduate school applicants
